SARVESHWAR BAIL SCAM LIKELY TO BE DEALT SEPARATELY

- U. SUDHAKAR REDDY | DC HYDERABAD, JULY 1

Sources in the AntiCorruption Bureau said that if necessary, a separate case would be registered regarding OSD Sarveshwar Reddy getting bail for `10 lakh as had been stated by the accused in the cash-forbail case in their confessions. All those who were named in the confessions would be questioned by the ACB, sources said.

Retired judge T.V. Chalapathi Rao and CBI special judge T. Pattabhi Rama Rao’s son had confessed that Sarveshwar Reddy had paid `10 lakh to Pattabhi Rama Rao for bail.

An ACB official said, “We will question rowdysheeter Yadagiri regarding the Sarveshwar Reddy cashfor-bail deal. If necessary, a separate case will be registered regarding this.”

Yadagiri, who acted as middleman in paying `10 lakh for Sarveshwar Reddy’s bail, is absconding. He is the one who actually paid Pattabhi Rama Rao when Gali Janardhan Reddy was in jail. So he has to reveal the link, said ACB officials.

Sarveshwar Reddy is also likely to be questioned.

ACB sleuths are also verifying statements of the accused, alleging that AP Election Commission legal secretary D. Prabhakar Rao had tried to strike a deal between Gali’s relatives and Pattabhi Rama Rao before Chalapathi Rao had come into the picture.

“We will crosscheck their statements. Depending on how the probe progresses we will decide on recording the statement of Prabhakar Rao,” said ACB.

The accused had stated that Prabhakar Rao had tried to broker a deal for Gali’s bail for `10 crore and that he had even threatened them after the deal was struck through the other middlemen, Chalapathi Rao and Yadagiri.
