Pranab bats for young blood Trinamul MLA says

Pranab is the best

- DC CORRESPONDENT NEW DELHI, JULY 1

UPA’s Presidential candidate Pranab Mukherjee on Sunday called for the younger generation to play an important role in national politics.

The comments of the former finance minister come days after external affairs minister S.M. Krishna stated that Rahul Gandhi should join the government.

In an interview to Doordarshan, Mr Mukherjee said the older generation should make room for the younger generation. Replying to a question on the vacuum created by his exit from active politics he said, “I would like to recommend that the older generations should make room for the younger generations to come and play their due role.”

He tried to downplay his contribution to the UPA government and stated that he was never indispensable.

“Nobody can be indispensable in this system, nature has its own way of filling the void,” he said.

The veteran political leader said before his candidature for the Presidential poll was announced, he had been sounded by Congress chief Sonia Gandhi that he had emerged as the UPA candidate for the highest office. Trinamul Congress MLA Shikha Mitra on Sunday claimed that Pranab Mukherjee was the best candidate for the country’s next President."I believe that he is the best candidate for the country’s next President," she said.
