Widow of terror victim threatens to commit suicide for Sarabjit release

The widow of one of the victims of a train blast near Sangla Hill in 1990, which was allegedly carried out by the Indian spy Sarabjit Singh, has threatened to immolate herself if the Pakistan government releases Singh.

“If President (Asif Ali) Zardari releases him (Sarabjit Singh) I will commit suicide. I will put myself on fire in front of the President’s House,” Shamim Bibi, widow of Mirza Tufail, said.

Talking to reporters in Sangla Hill, Shamim Bibi said that her husband was among the 14 victims of the terror attack allegedly carried out by Sarabjit Singh.

“Me and my five daughters are mourning the death of Mirza Tufail for the last 22 years, and the only consolatio­n to us could come in form of the killer’s hanging,” she said.

She said Indian actor Salman Khan, who has launched a campaign for the release of Sarabjit Singh, should feel the agony of the victims’ families.

Shamim Bibi said she would never pardon Sarabjit Singh and iterated that she would commit suicide if he was released.

Sarabjit Singh is on death row in a Pakistani jail. Bollywood star Salman Khan, who has been strongly seeking the release of Sarabjit Singh from a Pakistan prison, has begun an online campaign urging people to sign a petition to free the falsely accused Indian.
