Three students try to sell charas, held
Three MCA students were arrested on Monday with half kilo charas which they were trying to sell.
The police said the accused, Joginder Singh, 26, a third year student of Alard Institute of Management Science, Pune and a resident of Shimla, Bikash Mohanty, 24, a second year student of St. Martin’s College of Engineering, Kompally and a resident of Kandhamal, Odisha and his classmate R. Venkat Subbaiah, 25, from Budvel, Kadappa, had brought the charas from Himachal Pradesh and were trying to sell it in the city. Another accused, Manas, 24, from Berempur, Odisha, is absconding.
According to the Commissioner’s Task Force, North Zone, Joginder had come to Hyderabad one-and-a-half months back to pursue a course in Active Server Page and had joined Satya Technology in Ameerpet. “He and his classmate Manas stayed in a rented room at Mayuri Apartments in Begumpet and made a plan to sell charas in the city to earn quick money,” said inspector of police S. Rama Chandra Reddy.
“As per their plan, Manas went to Shimla and purchased half kilo charas for `45,000, which they wanted to sell for `4 lakh,” he said.
Mr Reddy added that the duo later contacted Bikash and asked him for help selling the drug. “Bikash and Venkat agreed to help them and asked for `30,000 as commission,” he said. Police arrested the trio while they were waiting for customers at Big Bazar, Ameerpet.
Deputy commissioner of police Ch. Ramchander said all the accused came from middle class families. “They wanted to lead a lavish life by selling charas,” he said and added that if the gang had not been busted, they would have introduced charas among new students. A case has been booked under the Narcotic Drugs and Psychotropic Substances Act.
