CHANDRABALA’S SECURITY TAKEN OFF ‘ON REQUEST’

- DC CORRESPONDENT HYDERABAD, JULY 2

Hyderabad police on Monday told the State Human Rights Commission (SHRC) that cases registered by the CBI joint director, Mr V.V. Lakshminarayana, and his family friend Ms Vasireddy Chandrabala were transferred to the CID.

The Cyberabad police told the rights panel that police protection to Ms Chandrabala, provided as per SHRC’s direction, was withdrawn on her request.

In his report to the SHRC, Hyderabad police commissioner Anurag Sharma said the Commission should seek a report on updates from the additional DGO, CID, since the city police had already handed over the probe.

Ms Chandrabala had earlier approached SHRC seeking protection, following “defamatory” reports in a section of the media that questioned the “high” number of phone calls between her and Mr Lakshminarayana.

City police chief Anurag Sharma stated that investigations had shown Ms Chandrabala had assisted “family friend” Mr Lakshminarayana in carrying out a research project on ‘ Victim compensation scheme for India by comparing various schemes in other countries’.

He said cases under various Sections of IPC, IT Act and Indian Telegraphs Act were registered on June 26 on the basis of Mr Lakshminarayana’s complaint. “The case filed by CCS of Hyderabad police was transferred to CID on June 29 on orders of the Director General of Police,” he said.
