Love or lust? Not an easy choice

- ANKITA KANABAR

e is anything but your quintessential Hindi cinema hero. His films so far, have been far from the usual potboilers. Yet, four-film-old Arunoday Singh has managed to command attention and is indeed popular with women, though he denies this fact. “Not many women like me, you see. I don’t really get much attention from women,” he says.

For now, he’s upbeat about his next venture, Pooja Bhatt’s Jism 2. So, how did Jism 2 happen? “It’s actually the character that I was offered which interested me. His name is Ayaan, and he is an intelligence officer working with a team that wants to capture a terror suspect, played by Randeep Hooda. For this, Ayaan has to get close to Sunny’s character who shares a past with Randeep. Ayaan is strong physically but emotionally he’s unprepared for the situations that he could be facing.”

How much does Arunoday relate to his character Ayaan. “I think as a guy there’s a lot that I can relate to. You know that whole battle of love and lust. Sometimes, when you’re in a relationship, there’s this fear that your partner could be unfaithful to you. Not that you don’t trust your partner, but it’s just a fear because you love someone. You know that feeling when you want someone so badly, that desperation and anger! I’ve been through both sides; hence, I try and remain faithful my relationships.”

Since the topic of ‘relationships’ has made its way into the discussion, we quiz him if he’s single. He quips, “I’m absolutely single.”

Still on the topic of relationships we’d like to know how Arunoday got along with the other male lead in Jism 2, Randeep Hooda. Arunoday says, “I have been a fan of his since his film D. Though we don’t have many scenes together in the film, off camera, we had a lot of fun.”

What about working with Sunny Leone? “You know, considering where she’s come from, she has a lot of baggage. In spite of all that, to do something new like a Hindi film is very brave of her. When you see the film, you’ll realise she’s put in a lot of effort. We had a great camaraderie on the sets.”

Their camaraderie seems to have transferred on screen as well. We are referring to the intimate scenes in the film. He laughs and says, “I think it’s important for two actors to be comfortable while filming an intimate scene. I make sure my costar feels at ease and only if she’s comfortable do I go ahead with it. Thankfully, all my co-stars have been comfortable while pulling off an intimate scene.”
