Police tows car with baby inside

- ABHISHEK ANAND | DC NEW DELHI, AUG 4

The Delhi traffic police is always overactive to tow your vehicle if you have parked it on the road, but the extra dedication to work of the traffic police officials led to a blunder on Saturday.

A couple, who had gone to fetch some medicines near Walia nursing home in Laxmi Nagar left their three-year-old daughter in the car as she was sleeping, but the tow van of the Delhi traffic police hooked their car and towed it away without even checking that some one could be inside the car.

A police official in the tow away vehicle saw a red colour car — DL 7C 4315 — parked outside Walia Nursing Home on no-parking zone at Vikas Marg. The official towed it away to Shakarpur police station at around 1 pm, police said.

After few minutes when the owner of the car — Anil Bedi and his wife Minu Bedi — returned to the road where they had parked the car, they found that their car and three- year-old daughter Nadiata, who was in the car, missing.

Shocked with the incident the couple started asking people standing nearby for around two three minutes. After getting no clues from the passersby, Anil Bedi made a call at police control room and narrated the whole incident.

“A man from the crowd said that he saw a red colour car being towed away by traffic official,” said Anil Bedi.

The passersby told the couple that their car would be parked at Shakarpur police station.

They immediately rushed towards the police station only to find their daughter screaming and crying profusely. The police officials hearing about the incident too rushed outside the station only to find the child safe.

Anil Bedi, a resident of 67-B, Baldev Park in Laxmi Nagar, told police that they had left the sleeping baby inside the car because they reckoned that it would not take them more than a few minutes to buy the medicines from the nursing home.

Meanwhile, the senior traffic officials have issued show cause notice to Constable Rakesh Kumar, who was gave the order to two away the vehicle without realising that a small kid was into the car.

“A show cause notice has been issued to official who was present over there and he has to explain for this negligence,” said a senior police official.
