Weaving dreams in Jamdani

- GAURANG SHAH

In the recent times, there is a resurgent trend towards traditional and environment-friendly clothing. The Jamdani weave is an inspiration for newage designers and gives them endless possibilities to create new styles in an eco-friendly way.

The whole concept of reviving something old and recreating it to suit the modern lifestyle has a global appeal. Jamdani, a brocaded fabric woven with discontinuous extra weft yarns, uses the ageold horizontal tapestry technique. The special feature of this technique is the magnificent design.

The method of weaving is akin to tapestry work in which small shuttles of coloured, gold, silver threads are passed through weft. Keeping up with the modern demand, present day Jamdani saris and ensembles have designs of rose, jasmine, lotus, bunch of bananas and sago creating all over intricate designs throughout the cloth.

Though these ensembles take a lot of time to weave, thin growing popularity has encouraged our skilled weavers to craft finer and more intricate designs. Moreover, using more number of tillis help them look more rich and colourful than before.

Our latest collection offers a fusion of Indian and Western sensibilities with unique outfits and patterns of kurta with lungi, straight pants, skirt with organza shrug, maxi dresses using handloom fabrics like khadi, kota and organzas. The fine use of Jamdani weave and Pars i embroidery accentuates the garments.
