Gold for Chandela, Rathore still ahead
Rajasthan’s Apurvi Chandela clinched the gold medal with scores of 395 + 103.7 in the air rifle women’s event at the 56th national shooting championship at the Karni Singh range here on Monday.
Pooja Ghatkar of Maharashtra was second with 395 + 103.5, while the bronze went to Pournima Chinmoy of Madhya Pradesh (396 + 101.6).
In the women’s double trap event, Shreyasi Singh of Bihar took the top honours, scoring 88. Seema Tomar and Varsha Tomar of Army, with identical scores of 83, were tie for the silver medal which the former won via a tie shoot.
Athens Olympics silver medallist Rajyavardhan Singh Rathore led the charge in the men’s competition with scores of 96, followed by Mohommad Asab of Uttar Pradesh, who shot 95.
Ronjan Sodhi and Shayan Masood were placed third with score of 93 each. The finals will be held on Tuesday.
In the air rifle junior women’s event, Nikita Salunke of Maharashtra (396) grabbed the gold, followed by Apurvi Chandela (395) of Rajasthan and West Bengal’s Mampi Das (393), who took the silver and bronze, respectively.
Sushil Ghaley of Army won the rifle prone event, with scores of 593 + 102.4. Karnataka’s Rakesh Manpat (591 + 103.2) and Sanjeev Rajput (588 + 104) of Navy followed Ghaley.
In the pistol women’s event, Sushma Singh shot 580 + 200.5 to secure the gold ahead of Rahi Sarnobat (583 + 196.4) and Olympian Annuraj Singh (573 + 201.6).
