POLITICS: TD to continue suspense on T

Politburo may give Naidu a free hand

- DC CORRESPONDENT HYDERABAD, DEC. 24

Telugu Desam chief N. Chandrababu Naidu is all set to continue the suspense over his party’s stand on Telangana separate statehood, at least till the all-party leaders’ meeting on December 28.

Mr Naidu has convened the party politburo meeting on December 27, a day before the all-party meeting on Telangana in Delhi, “To discuss and decide the TD’s stand on Telangana”.

The TD chief will also name the two representatives who will represent the party in the meeting.

Senior party functionary and former minister Kadiam Srihari told mediapersons that Mr Naidu, who is on his padayatra, will chair the politburo meeting at Saidapuram in Karimnagar district on December 27.

It is most likely Mr Naidu will only elicit opinions from the politburo members who in turn will ‘authorise' him to take a stand and also name two representatives.

He is expected to ‘brief ’ the party’s stand to the two representatives and will also instruct them not to reveal the party’s stand in all-party leaders’ meeting till the Congress spells out its stand on the issue.

It may be mentioned here that Mr Naidu went on record on Sunday that TD will insist that the Congress, being the ruling party both at the Centre and in the state, has the responsibility to clarify its stand on Telangana first so that the others follow suit.

In a related development, PCC chief Botsa Satyanarayana said the Congress central leadership will decide its two representatives for the meeting and name them only on December 27.
