HANDWOVEN GOLD AND SILVER THREAD WORK FEATURES IN THIS DESIGNER’S WORK

- SHRUTI SANGHAVI , ACCESSORY DESIGNER — As told to Rohini Nair

Fashion has always been of great interest to me, which was what enticed me towards designing. Innovating and making unique creations are the two aspects that interest me the most. Accessories are a huge part of any ensemble, which can enhance the look. Getting a chance to design has always been challenging yet appealing.

I design accessories for the label Audelade, creating visions out of real gold and silver. Bags and shoes for both men and women are handcrafted and hand-woven in real gold and silver. This gives me a diverse range to play with and experiment.

I am hugely inspired by the works of Giorgio Armani and Hermes along with Marc Jacobs. All of these are legendary brands and have made a huge impact with their creations on our fashion consciousness.

Among Indian designers, Masaba Gupta has been very inspiring. Playing around motifs and colour, she has some exceptional pieces which make heads turn. I also respect and admire Sabyasachi Mukherjee for his timeless pieces.

I wish I could design the kind of handbags that Tods has, as it uses a unique craft which is difficult to replicate — the pebble effect. A Tods bag can be identified by the touch and feel of this effect.

This season a lot of colour has been seen, along with striking prints and motifs, it has been a rage both home and abroad.

I’m a balanced person by nature and my designs hold the same balance between being creative and commercial.
