- SHAFQAT ALI | DC ISLAMABAD, JAN. 19

The family of Kamran Faisal, the deceased assistant director who was investigating the Rental Power Project (RPP) scam in which Pakistan Prime Minister Raja Pervez Ashraf is the main accused, said Saturday that his body had torture marks.

“It wasn’t a suicide. It was a murder. The killers must be traced and punished”, Kamran Faisal’s father Abdul Hamid Kamboh said.

The NAB official was found dead under mysterious circumstances on Friday at his residence in Islamabad. A preliminary post-mortem report on Saturday however, said that Kamran Faisal had committed suicide.

“A panel of doctors unanimously concluded that the death was in fact a suicide since the body has no marks of torture or any indication that another party caused the death”, a police official added.

Mohammed Iqbal, uncle of the deceased, disclosed that Kamran Faisal was frequently receiving threatening calls from unknown persons.

“His body has torture marks. We cannot believe he committed suicide. Faisal’s back, arms and wrists showed torture marks”, he added. Kamran Faisal’s other family members also termed it a murder.

They requested the Chief Justice Iftikhar Chaudhry to take suo moto notice of the mysterious killing.

A police official said a special investigation team is on way to probe Faisal’s death in his ancestral village.
