Windows Phone 8

- ISHAAN ARYA

Its been a long wait, but Windows Phone 8 is here and it takes the best parts of Windows Mango and makes them better!! The HTC’s flagship device Windows Phone8X is all ready to take on Nokia and its Lumia 920 for the top spot in the Windows Phone charts.

The 8X features a sleek Unibody design with curved edges. It features the same polycarbonate body seen in the HTC One phones and looks great with the matt finish. The WP8 OS is what makes the phone special with the simple User Interface and easy accessibility. One of the many changes includes the ability to customise the size of the home screen tiles, a feature sorely missed by Windows Mango users. However, HTC’s lacks exclusive apps, like the ones Nokia is going around flaunting. While the Windows Phone Marketplace does have all basic apps, its lack of gazzilions of apps is sure to be a sore point for Android and iOS users. The phone’s 16 GB Internal storage is also bound to be a sore point.

The phone’s 1.5 ghz Snapdragon S4 processor with its 1GB ram makes the OS runs flawlessly and is a great improvement compared to the performance of HTC's WP 7.5 phones. The 8X comes with an 1800 mAh battery which lasts an entire day for light and medium users on 3G.

All Windows Phone 8 devices come with an amazing map app which not only works phenomenally well but also allows you to download and store maps which can be used without a data connection, thanks to the in-built GPS. The 8X has an eight Megapixel rear camera that works great during the day, but unfortunately produces grainy pictures in low light conditions. It also features a 2.1 mp front camera which is better than many devices on the market. Music is a huge part of phones these days and HTC recognizes that. The 8X features Beats amplifiers which kick in once you plug in headphones.

Overall, the HTC 8X is a good phone. It features pretty high-end specs for such a sleek and light phone and is a great Windows Phone option for people looking for alternatives to Nokia.
