Srinivas-Ashwin clinch title

- DC CORRESPONDENT

The pair of Aluri Srinivasa Rao and Ashwin Jain won the Hyderabad leg of the 2013 edition of the Audi Quattro Cup — held at the Boulder Hills Golf & Country Club over the weekend — and in doing so, they qualified for the national final to be held in Istanbul, Turkey, in August.

The event, which saw 96 golfers take part, was played in the stable-ford format where 48 pairs vied with each other for top honours. Srinivas and Ashwin scored 45 points between them to finish first.

Rajesh Alla and Rakesh Vatlamodi finished runnersup, having scored 43 points. Despite their bridesmaid finish, they also managed to make it to the national final. Content with the second runners-up spot were Chinna Babu and yogesh Rastogi, who carded 42 stableford points.

Just to shake things up a bit, the organisers decided to award a wild card pair a shot at earning a spot in the finals. S. Athota and Kiran Kohli got the wild card, but they will have to await the scores of wild cards from the other 13 rounds as the wild card with the best scores will get through.

All golf and no play might have made it a dull affair and just to spice things up a bit, skill-based events — ‘Longest Drive’, ‘Straightest Drive’ and Closest to Pin’ — were held alongside the main event.

Madhav Kota won the ‘Longest Drive’ challenge on Hole No. 7 with a whopping 290-yard drive.

Aditya Morapudi won the ‘Straightest Drive’ award on Hole No.14 while Narasimha Raju emerged winner in the ‘Closest to Pin’ competition on Hole No.16
