Karaoke on Xbox Live
Over the last couple of years, we have seen a gradual shift for the Xbox, taking it from a primarily gaming platform to a home entertainment device. That means, Microsoft is trying to make it a one-stop solution for all your entertainment needs from TV, movies, music to gaming.
A lot of the applications and services aren’t available in India, yet (don’t worry they will get here soon…ish) there are a few you can check out. The
Karaoke App is probably one of the most useful and underused Apps on the Xbox, primarily because most people don’t know about it.
The App gives you almost 8,000 songs to choose from and then throws your avatar on stage for what is probably the funniest performance ever.
The app has solo songs as well as duet versions of certain songs. Even though they boast of a song library of over 8,000. I was extremely disappointed with the song selection as too many popular artists and songs were missing.
That being said, the App does have a whole bunch of great classics as well as new-age hits and current chart singles. Hopefully, over time the song library will grow.
Also what makes the Karaoke app truly awesome is the SmartGlass support. It enables you to search and queue-up songs without disturbing the singer. But the browsing UI could use a few tweaks to allow more detailed searches.
Best part? The app is FREE to download and comes with a few free songs; but to access the entire library, you need to pick a pass for two, six or 24 hours. It’s a great, reasonably-priced system and is great fun once you get in the mood for some crazy Karaoke.
