Actor Kavitha’s daughter’s wedding episode got more mysterious on Saturday as the Panjagutta police arrested the newly-wed bridegroom after a woman, who claimed to be his wife, lodged a complaint.

Kavitha’s daughter, Madhuri, had eloped with a car driver named A. Rajkumar on Wednesday and had married him at the Venkateswara Swamy temple in Peddappalli, Karimnagar, on Thursday. On Saturday, it came to light that Rajkumar, a native of Huzurabad, already had two wives.

Rajkumar’s second wife, Jayashree, 25, registered a case of cheating against him on Saturday, which led to his arrest. He has been booked under the Indian Penal Code’s Section 494 (for bigamy) and 420 (cheating), said Panjagutta police inspector N. Thirupathi.

Madhuri, meanwhile, told the local media that she was drugged by Rajkumar and the marriage took place without her knowledge. She said that Rajkumar made her drink a cool drink, after which she does not remember anything. Panjagutta cops, however, point out that neither Madhuri nor her parents have lodged a police complaint regarding this issue.

The police version says Madhuri went with Rajkumar to Peddappalli and stayed one night in his relative’s house before they got married, on March 13 in the temple. When Peddapalli cops questioned her, Madhuri testified that she married of her free will.

According to sources, Rajkumar, 28, had married Annapurna from his village in 2005. He divorced her 18 months later. In 2008, he married Jayashree from Huzurabad.
