Delight for Delisha
Delisha Guttikonda and Fareen Viccajee advanced to the semifinals of the girls’ under-14 singles category at the Aster Minds AP state ranking tennis tournament being held at the Vishal Tennis Academy, Secunderabad, on Sunday.
Delisha was in her element as she upset Charita Vasi Reddy 6-3 in the quarterfinal clash. Charita, who finished runner-up in the State ranking meet held at the Sanjeevaiah Park tennis courts last week, could not replicate her performance this time as Delisha called the shots right from her first service game.
While Delisha’s match was an easy affair, Fareen’s quarterfinal clash was a cakewalk. Fareen’s opponent, D. Kaumudi Reddy, failed to put up even a modicum of resistance as the former cruised to a 6-0 victory.
Joining Delisha and Fareen in the semifinals were P. Lasya and Tulasi Korwar. Lasya defeated Sharmeen Naaz 6-5 (7-3) in a closely-contested quarterfinal encounter while Tulasi brushed aside Nidhi Taduri 6-1.
In the boys’ under-10 singles category, R. Yash, V. Karthik Neal, V. Koushik Kumar and R. Mukund Reddy made the semifinals.
Yash defeated J. Yashwanth V.V.S. 6-4 in their quarterfinal clash while Koushik beat Yuvraj Bandi 6-3. Karthik too had an easy outing as he beat S. Rushikesh 6-3 to make it to the last four stage. Mukund, however, faced stiff resistance from K. Satwik Raju, before prevailing 65 (7-5).
In the boys’ under-12 singles category, Anne Akash defeated Rishil Gupta 7-5 to make it to the semifinals.
In the girls’ under-12 singles category, G. Nikitha and K. Sreeja advanced to the quarterfinals. Nikitha saw off V. Sahasha Reddy 6-4 while Sreeja beat Ishika Agarwal 6-1. Koka Sreya, however had to fight it out for a 6-5 (7-4) victory against Palle Geethika in their pre-quarterfinal clash.
