CRIME: OU campus still tense after fight

After the clashes between two student groups and police action, Osmania University campus continued to remain tense on Sunday.

Though no fresh clashes were reported, both the groups ABVP and TRSV blamed each other for starting the fight. The police establishe­d pickets across the campus to maintain law and order.

The situation remained tense when scores of ABVB activists gathered near Arts College building and re-installed a religious idol that was allegedly demolished by

the TRSV and Left wing student groups on Saturday.

The OU police sent five students who were arrested for vandalisin­g the idol, to judicial custody, on Sunday.

“We arrested five people and booked a case under Section 156 of the IPC for spreading hatred between communitie­s. We sent them to judicial remand,” OU police inspector Ashok said.

Since it was a Sunday, a majority of the students did not turn up at the campus.

However, people belonging to different student political parties were seen in different parts of the campus.

In order to avoid clashes, OU police kept a close watch on the places where students gathered.

Three students were injured in Saturday’s clash. One of them sustained serious injuries.
