Police against walls near ORR toll plazas
The Cyberabad police has raised objections to the construction of walls blocking half the lanes at toll plazas on Outer Ring Road.
The Hyderabad Metropolitan Development Authority has blocked half of the lanes as a cost-cutting measure to avoid setting up toll booths on both sides, for which they require both staff and equipment.
Cyberabad police commissioner Ch. D. Tirumala Rao said, “Constructing walllike structures in the middle of the road is leading to traffic jams near toll booths on the ORR. Heavy vehicles and cars have to converge at toll booths due to this permanent blockage of the road, which is resulting in traffic congestion at these spots.”
Cyberabad police officials also stated that the walls could lead to life-threatening accidents if unnoticed by motorists. They observed that such a blockage near AP Police Academy is leading to regular jams, causing inconvenience to the general public as well as to the visitors to the academy.
A traffic police official said, “Instead of setting up two booths on either side of the road they are trying to manage with one to avoid recruiting more staff and setting up equipment. We have taken up the issue with the HMDA authorities.”
“So far, we have not received any complaints from the Cyberabad police. We will look into it once they approach us,” said Samuel Kumar, the project director and ORR chief engineer.
Toll plazas where jams are frequent are Pedda Amberpet, Bongulur, Raviryal, Thukkuguda, Pedda Golconda, Shamshabad, Rajendranagar, APPA, Kokapet, Nanakramguda, Edulanagulapally and Patancheru.
