Cheating case on Chandana outlet

- DC CORRESPONDENT HYDERABAD, MAY 4

Following a complaint, a team of legal metrology officials raided the Dilsukhnagar showroom of Chandana Brothers on Saturday and booked cases against the management for allegedly trying to cheat their customers.

According to the officials, a complaint was lodged on May 3 by one K. Kishan, a retired government officer. On April 8, Mr Kishan exchanged four gold bangles weighting 55.6 gm and was asked to pick up the new bangles 10 days later. “On April 18 (when the cost of the gold was `27,908 per 10 gm) I purchased the four new plain bangles weighting 59.76 gm (4.16 gms more), for which the management charged me `38,500 extra, whereas the actual price for the extra gold on that day was `11,600,” Mr Kishan said. On the same day, he had also purchased two studded gold bracelets weighting around 34.40 gm costing `1,11,500 including making charges and tax. “The management had given me a discount of `4,559 on the bracelets. However, the management did not remove the stone weight from the bracelets. I have paid an extra of `5,000,” added Mr Kishan.

Following the complaint, a team of three officials, posing as customers, visited the showroom and purchased a gold chain and a stone earnings. “They found that the stone weight was included in the total gold weight. Cases for not deducting the stone weight and not mentioning the purity of gold on bills have been booked. “If we find more such cases, the matter will be taken to the court of law,” said R.P. Thakur, legal metrology controller.
