Bathrooms have climbed to the top of the renovation wishlist, with the gamut of gadgets and options available and consumers more than willing to spend on them. People are increasingly keen on renovating their homes, what with their disposable income going up and their growing need for material comforts, and with the availability of all kinds of innovative gadgets and exposure to the best things in life. And the rooms that top the renovation list are kitchens and bathrooms. So how does one create a bathroom that one can not only sing in, but also sing about?

‘His’ and ‘Her’

With growing time constraints and desire for comfort, couples are looking at His and Her bathrooms… or at least, His and Her washbasins in the same bathroom. While planning these, bear in mind the space available vis-a-vis what is needed, without compromising on other spaces.

Cladding

Popular materials these days are natural stones, slate (both rough and polished versions), tiles and engineered stones.

Cubicles

Glass cubicles create a sense of space in small bathrooms, while giving them a stylish look. But glass requires a lot of maintenance. So, another option (other than a shower curtain, of course) would be a short four-inch wall, with stone or tile cladding; visually, this affords depth while the height prevents water from splashing out of the cubicle.

Counter tops

Use large slabs of granite, engineered stone, wood with glass topping, or cement-finish slabs. If you prefer tiles, then go for bigger tiles to avoid clogging of dust and water.

Washbasins

Under-mount or counter-top options are available. If you have enough space, go for a large, deep sink which saves a lot of time in cleaning. Ceramic is preferable over glass, mother of pearl, wood etc.

Mirrors and windows

A large mirror above the sink will create a sense of space. Big windows provide excellent ventilation. For privacy, you could use stained glass, textured glass or glass that has etchings; or the blinds.
