DGP dares Shankar Rao to prove graft

- DC Correspondent HYDERABAD, JULY 3

Director general of police V. Dinesh Reddy has challenged former minister and Secunderabad MLA P. Shankar Rao to produce documents that prove that he has assets disproportionate to his income, as the MLA has alleged.

Mr Dinesh Reddy says “The MLA is using blackmailing tactics. He has written several letters to me seeking transfer of inspectors of DSPs. When we went ahead on the transfers of policemen as per police establishment rules, and did not oblige him, he tried to target me. He has sought details of property in my wife’s name under the RTI Act. It is ridiculous. My property details can be obtained from the registration department or the MHA ministry of home affairs.”

He added that while Mr Shankar Rao can write to the concerned government officials about the allegations against him, he can't go to the public. “This amounts to defamation. He made wild allegations against former DGP K. Aravinda Rao too. Mr Shankar Rao has a habit of targeting DGPs for his personal gains by making false allegations. If he is making false and defamatory comments against a DGP, the head of the force, the entire police force’s morale will go down,” Mr Dinesh Reddy said. Mr Shankar Rao had written letters to the DGP on March 5 1, 2012, in August 2011, April 2011, March 2011 and on June 26, 2010, seeking the transfers.

In August 2012, he wrote to the DGP under the RTI Act asking for details of properties held in the name of his wife V. Kamala Reddy in the GHMC and all the other 23 districts. “This letter was written only to blackmail me,” Mr Reddy avers.

Mr Dinesh’s predecessor, K. Aravinda Rao had written to the Chief Secretary accusing Mr Shankar Rao of making baseless allegations against him after he refused to oblige the MLA in the matter of transfers and providing gunmen to people he recommended.
