Justice C.V. Nagarjuna Reddy of the AP High Court on Wednesday made it clear that the court will not hear any further petitions on BC reservations in local bodies as the notification to conduct polls to Panchayat Raj institutions was already issued by the state election commission. The judge was suspending operation of a notification issued by the Warangal district collector on June 25, 2013 by reserving all the offices of Gram Panchayats the Mangapeta mandal in favour of Scheduled Tribes (STs). A special team appointed by the AP High Court to look into student suicides in universities and colleges in the state has recommended that a task force be constituted by the Universities Grant Commission which would be at par with an anti-ragging committee and would monitor aca- demic and emotional distress of students.

A team headed by the principal secretary to the state government has placed its recommendations before the HC.

The team has suggested that each instance of student suicide shall be investigated by an internal committee of the university with adequate representation form SC, ST OBC and minority communities.

The cases of detention and expulsion by the disciplinary committee are referred to student’s redressal committee before final decision was implemented. Justice Reddy Kantha Rao on Wednesday quashed a criminal case against Mazhar Hussain, chairperson of the Consideration of Voluntary Associations. The police had filed a case against him following a protest from activists of the Bajrang Dal after Hussain organised a meeting in August 2012 to promote friendly ties between India and Pakistan.
