Rohit excited to be part of Jhalak

- NATASHA COUTINHO

The handsome Rohit Roy, last seen in Hitler Didi will be making a comeback with Jhalak Dikhhla Jaa as a wild card entry. The actor, who has hosted a few seasons of the dance reality show in the past, says that he never saw himself as a contestant one day.

Rohit says, “I loved hosting Jhalak; I think it is a positive and inspirational show. I am not a dancer but I take inspiration from other contestants. For instance, I have known Shaan for 20 years and at best he would dance at parties. But look at him now. He’s performing so well on the show.”

Rohit tells us that though the offer came as a surprise, he did not think twice before accepting it. “I was at a meeting for another show when I suddenly got an offer to be a wildcard on Jhalak. I thought about it for exactly two-and-ahalf seconds before signing the deal. I have seen the level of the contestants this season and felt it would be interesting to compete with them,” he says with a smile.

While he was very excited about the show, his injury right before the start of the shoot has come as a setback. Rohit says, “I am completely injured right now. I have cuts and bruises all over my knees. I was over enthusiastic on the first day and ended up injuring my back. Despite the injuries, my focus is on getting my first act right; I don’t want to disappoint the judges and viewers in my very first performance. My choreographer Suchitra understands my condition and is treating me with kid gloves.”

While he has not been too active on the acting front of late, Rohit informs us that his Bengali films have been keeping him busy and he is happy with the kind of work he is being offered. “I have been doing a lot of Bengali films. My latest release Mrs Sen is a big hit in Kolkata. Besides Jhalak, I am also shooting for a film with Paoli Dam. Now that I am doing Bengali films, a lot of people have this misconception that I won’t act on TV any more, but I am open to interesting offers on TV as well,” says Rohit.
