Experiment goes wrong
It’s been a while since filmmaker Singeetam Srinivasa Rao, aged 81 years, has made a film and definitely, there were huge expectations from the man who churned out masterpieces like Apoorva Sahodarulu, Pushpaka Vimanam, Aditya 369 and Bhairava Dweepam. Welcome Obama, is another such experimental film, but this time, it has gone wrong.
An adaptation of award-winning Malayalam film Mala Aai Vhhaychy, the story is about Krishna (Esteban), a surrogate kid to Yashoda (Urmila) while his biological mother is Lucy (Rachel), a US citizen. What transpires in between Lucy and Yashoda forms the crux of the story. Certainly, this is not a runof-the-mill story Telugu audiences would watch often. But what went wrong? Slow-paced narration in the first half and a bad comedy track in second half.
