New gadget can detect objects

- AMAR TEJASWI | DC HYDERABAD, MARCH 13

The “Stand Off Object Detection” equipment exhibited at the civil aviation event in the city took everyone by surprise.

Unlike other detectors, the Stand Off detects liquids, paper, gel, plastic, currency, metal and power while screening, making it useful at airports and defence installations.

Usually metal detectors with active frequencies throw radiation at the individual to detect the presence of any foreign material and many frequent travellers complain of its harmful effects. However, the Stand Off Object Detector, with a passive frequency, absorbs the body’s radiation and then displays the presence of objects. This detector also does not display private parts of a person during screening.

Pranav Nagpal, vicepresident, business development OIS-AT Private Limited, said, “The object detector is capable of The Stand Off Object Detector is capable of detecting large concealed objects at distances of up to 15 meter and smaller items at a distance of up to 6 meter. It is suitable for permanent outdoor installation for military, security and corporate applications. operating at a distance of 3m-10m. Hyderabad is the first city in India to receive this detector. Usually metal detectors first throw an active frequency ray on the person to detect objects, which can be harmful for an individual if one is a frequent traveller. But the Stand Off Object Detector is safe and non-invasive and absorbs body radiation to detect any foreign material including liquids, paper and power. With this, one carrying explosives, power material, drugs, poison or any destructive substance can be detected easily.”
