- AMAR TEJASWI | DC HYDERABAD, APRIL 12 CHANDRAGIRI/CHITTOOR, APRIL 12

He could possibly be the crorepati with the lowest taxable income. T. Veerender, the son of former minister T. Devender Goud, has declared assets of more than `58 crore and taxable income of `720.

This income was interest paid by banks on his savings, and apparently his only taxable income.

Mr Veerender is contesting on a TD ticket from the Chevella Lok Sabha constituency.

Mr Veerender, 31, an MBA from Babson College in Boston, Massachusetts, USA, stated in his affidavit that his annual income was `720 while that of his wife T. Divya Shree was `610. His Congress rival, P. Karthik Reddy, son of former minister Sabita Indra Reddy, has declared taxable income of `3.24 lakh for 201314. He has listed his profession as “politics” in his affidavit. He has movable assets worth about `76.13 lakh and immovable property worth `2.55 crore.

Mr Veerender has had run-ins with the incometax department which have resulted in attachment, according to his accounts managers.

His total worth is about `58.27 crore, including investments in companies worth `27.49 crore and `29.60 crore given as loans to others. That apart, he has agricultural land in Shamshabad and Maheshwaram worth about `1.9 crore and `1.59 crore respectively. He has loans of about `13.25 crore.

He explained, “There was an issue about capital gains on agricultural land and the authorities were asking us to pay tax. Former minister Galla Aruna could probably be the richest among the contestants in the 2014 general elections fray from the Chittoor district. Backed by a strong entrepreneurial family which runs the Galla group of companies, which has literally set its foot-print in the Industrial and automotive batteries, power electronics, fasteners, sheet metal products and food processing, Ms Galla Aruna has declared her assets close to 214.19 crore, while the assets of her husband Galla Ramachandra Naidu has been declared as 559.64 crore in their affidavits filed along with her nominations on Saturday. For the financial year ending 2012-2013, Ms Galla But that was illogical. So we went to the tribunal and won the case.”

About his income, he said, “Even my manager told me it’s a little unbelievable. But I have to be Aruna has paid taxes close to 41.42 lakh, while her husband has paid to the tune of 13.90 crore. It is learnt from the affidavit that she owes her husband 49 lakh. Ms Galla Aruna, who is contesting from the Chandragiri assembly constituency for the sixth time could well be on the top list of the richest candidates from the Chittoor district. Meanwhile, all eyes are now on her son Jaydev Galla who has been fielded from the Guntur LS seat on a TD ticket . honest. We live in a joint family and I have been in politics for quite some years now but I don’t have a source of income. I don’t even have a car on my name.”
