For a home theatre and a bar area

planning to renovate one of my bedrooms and turn it into an entertainment room — a mix of a home theatre and a bar. Could you please give me suggestions on how to go about it? Is it a good idea to combine the two? What size is ideal for a room for this purpose?

you have an extra bedroom that you want to convert into an entertainment room, there are a few changes that you will have to make, but they are minor ones and not expensive. And yes, it is a good idea to combine bar space and home theatre.
There is no ideal size for a home theatre. It depends on what is available. Is there an ideal size for a home? You find homes ranging from very small to very very large homes. It is the same with home theatres. Just work with whatever is available and make the best of it.
The distance between the screen or TV and the seating must be one and a half times the diagonal measurement of the screen. This will help in getting a good visual quality.
Make sure that the room has only a few windows and openings. And cover the windows with thick curtains.
Get a false roof made with acoustic material that is available in the market. You can even have different levels in your false roof to help with acoustics.
Whether you get a screen or a TV, do get surround speakers in place for proper audio effects. Concealed wiring will give a neat look.
Buy a universal remote so that you use just one instead of a number of remotes. Proper seating makes a difference to your enjoying and relaxing in your home theatre. So buy seating that you have tested at least a few times. If budget and space permit then a recliner would be great. Get one. Even a manually operated one will do.
When you set up your bar, do plan for adequate storage for bar usage. Make sure that the bar it is at the far end of the room and not close to the TV or screen as it can distract viewers.
