After two months in a rescue home following her alleged involvement in a sex racket that came to light during a raid at a posh Banjara Hill hotel, actress Shweta Basu Prasad is ready to restart her acting career.

Denying that “all doors were now closed” for her, she adds, “What doors are closed? Anyone can see that all this is made up. I don’t know how people say that I said this. I had been auditioning for roles even when the arrest happened.”

The actress, who seems to have taken the entire episode in her stride, says that she hadn’t been doing films as she was concentrating on a documentary. “I spent three-and-a-half years making a documentary on Hindustani classical music. I wasn’t doing films after my first Tamil film because I wanted to focus on my documentary. But I will be concentrating on my acting now… I have friends in the industry, I am well connected,” she says.

Sources also say that Shweta was let out of the rescue home as some people were afraid that she would reveal some “big” names involved in the racket. The reasoning being if she was free, they could then coerce her into keeping her silence.

Laughing away the rumour, the actress says, “What names would I spill? During interrogation the police asked me about Tollywood actresses who might be involved. I don’t even know their names. Why should I make comments on other actresses?”

She is now ready to move on, but the bitterness remains. “My parents have suffered enough. What crime have I committed? And why was a section of the media having so much fun at our expense? We as a nation enjoy watching others suffer. We are sadistic people. I want to ask the journalist who made up a false statement on my behalf: how much do you know about me and my family?”
