Salman stood by Jay like a rock

Jay Borade was the first choreograp­her to win a National Award for Sooraj Barjatya’s blockbuste­r film Hum Aapke Hain Kaun. Borade, 77, breathed his last on Sunday night. leaving behind a huge body of work.

Jay, who had retired years ago, suffered a serious injury a couple of months ago and was battling for life. His good friend Salman, who calls Jay his favourite choreograp­her, learnt about his critical condition and immediatel­y shifted him to a better hospital and got his surgery done.

Jay has choreograp­hed the superstar in films such as Maine Pyaar Kiya, Hum Aapke Hai Kaun, Baaghi and Hum Saath Saath Hai. Salman tweeted saying, “My favorite choreograp­her no more . Mpk , hahk , baggi , hum saat saat .... Enjoy the songs n make his soul rest in peace . Enjoy this eve.”

Bhupendra Sayan, general secretary of Indian Film Dance Directors Associatio­n (IFDDA) said, “He was the first choreograp­her to get a National Award and is famous for his work with Salman and Rajshri production­s. Yesterday, in the evening we came to know about his death and it was a shock because he was discharged after the treatment and was recovering well.”

Salman ensured that his personal doctor took care of Jay’s medical requiremen­ts. Bhupendra said, “Salman was paying for his treatment and after he was discharged there were some other complicati­ons. It was very kind of Salman to do what he did. We also helped Jay for his treatment.” When the actor learnt about the demise of Jay he left everything and rushed back to Mumbai. “I was not aware of this but Jay’s son Vickey told me that Salman was in the hospital last night. In the journey from the hospital to morgue, Salman was sitting in the ambulance with Vickey and he was there till late night,” Bhupendra added.

According to Jay’s colleagues, he was a jovial person who made people laugh.
