‘Lead a disciplined life’

-

QI am an 18-yearold and suffer from severe hair fall. My friends often make fun of me. Please suggest some precautions to stop hair loss.

— Gowri Shanker

AIt is very important for you to have discipline in life. This means eat well, sleep well and also enjoy your life. Sleep disturbances can cause hair fall. If you frequently wake up in the middle of the night, think too much or have trouble sleeping well, you could suffer from hair fall. Have a glass of milk and one apple every day and your hair will regrow. — Dr Laxmi Sharda,

Consultant dermatologist, Care Hospitals

QHow do I increase my weight? I am now 70 plus, and had undergone angioplasty about 10 years ago. I was then 65 kg. Later, my weight fell to 60 kg. When I got a health check-up done sometime ago, I was told that I am under-weight. Currently, I am only 57 kg. I am otherwise hale and healthy and free of any ailment. Kindly tell me how to increase my weight, to at least 60 kg. My height is 5 feet 6 inch.

AThere is no specific medicine to increase weight. Since you say that the weight loss has been gradual, you should get a thorough evaluation done. Weight loss can either be due to under-eating or because of hormonal problems and malabsorption. It could be due to an occult malignancy also. Unless we know the reason for the weight loss, it is difficult for us to suggest a solution. — Dr Hemanth C., Senior general

physician, Yashoda Hospital
