A Class X student died at a private school in Chengicherla village in Medipally on Saturday afternoon while playing Kabbadi. She suddenly collapsed and was shifted to a hospital, but was declared as brought dead.

Cops suspect she could have died due to ill health or epilepsy. However, they said an autopsy report would reveal the cause of death. The victim, identified as Sai Leela, 15, was a student of BMRS Grammar School. She lived in Sai Nagar. Her father Satyanarayana is an autorickshaw driver.

Medipally police said the school management had organised the kabbadi competition as part of RDay celebrations. There was a match in the afternoon. Sai Leela had played for seven minutes and it was half time.

“In the second half of the game, as it was her turn, she took a call and went to the opposite team’s side. After she made an opponent out, she collapsed. People around saw that she had seizures for a while,” said SI K. Prem Sagar.

The school staff shifted her to Kakatiya Hospitals in Medipally where she was declared dead. The cops booked a case under Section 174.
