100TH DONOR IN JEEVANDAN RAISES HOPES
With the 100th donor donating three organs, two kidneys and a liver, the Jeevandan scheme of the government has been successful in creating awareness among the public. In the two years, since the scheme started in January 2013, it has been able to achieve 100 donors. The scheme has received 455 organs from these donors and it has benefited a large number of people. It has also helped to create awareness about the need for organ donation. The 100th donor was a 60-year-old lady from Sangareddy who fell unconscious at home on January 19. She was admitted to KIMS Hospital. But on January 23 the neuro surgeon declared her brain dead. The family was counselled and her son Ravi Shankar agreed to donate two kidneys and liver. A function to facilitate the families of all donors will be held.
