I feel like slapping film directors who demean women, teachers and youth and promote lumpen culture. — DESAPATI SRINIVAS, Poet and officer on special duty to Chief Minister

Tollywood film directors got an earful from poet and Officer on Special Duty to Chief Minister over the portrayal of women, teachers and youth in Telugu films.

“I feel like slapping film directors who demean women, teachers and youth and promote lumpen culture,” said Desapati Srinivas. “Telangana doesn’t need films that demean women, teachers and youth,” he remarked creating a stir in film and political circles.

Accusing some Telugu film directors of destroying culture by showing women in a disgusting manner, he said TS cinema should not be like them and the state doesn’t need such films.

In an indirect swipe at noted film director Puri Jagannadh who reportedly said that making a film with good message to people would bomb at the box office, an angry Srinivas said he would slap such directors if he came across them.

“If such directors come before my I will slap them four times. Puri Jagannadh is one such harmful director in my opinion. He says if one makes a film with a good message, it will bomb at the box office,” he remarked.

Some movies show women in an insulting manner. In one film, a hero drags the heroine on sand like an animal and posters are pasted all over Hyderabad. Imagine what impression it will create on women. What attitude will you develop towards women, he asked.
