Most kids are suffering from skin allergy, fever, cold, and lung related diseases A seven-member team of doctors examined them

Most of the children rescued from the bangle making unit on Saturday were suffering from skin allergy, fever, cold, and lung-related diseases. A few of them are malnourished.

Doctors who examined the kids said they were exposed to hazardous chemicals while working. The employers did not provide proper clothing and most kids developed skin allergy. A few also seemed to have suffered from chicken pox.

“I could examine 17 kids and most of them have skin allergy and have developed diseases like psoriasis. One of them had high fever, two others were suffering from cold and cough,” said Dr M. Sunanda, from the Falaknuma primary health centre.

Exposure to dangerous chemicals has taken a toll, said another doctor. “The longer they stayed inside the units, the more dangerous it got. If not treated properly, they could get serious diseases in the future,” he said.

The employers never took the kids when they are sick. Sometimes, they would punish the kids more, thinking they were trying to avoid work.
