Waves bring down beach wall in Vizag

- DC CORRESPONDENT

The retaining wall of around 20 metre on the beach road suffered huge damages on Saturday due to high tides amid the huge festivities going on as part of Visakha Utsav on RK Beach.

It may be recalled that the retaining wall at the Kursura Submarine Museum collapsed recently. Now, a major portion of the coast between RK Beach and YMCA has suffered damages and the sheen of the city’s beaches have vanished.

The state government had recently conducted a meet with senior officials of Port, GVMC, Vuda, NIO and others on immediate measures to control sea erosion and a highlevel committee was also formed.

Port officials announced that they would take up beach nourishment activities in February for controlling sand trap. But, on Saturday, the beach opposite AU Yoga Village lost around 20 metre of wall along the beach road.

GVMC commissioner said they would dump 1,000 cu metre of boulders next month.

City police commissioner Amit Garg directed the police officials to deploy additional personnel along the beach for guiding tourists.
