Infighting in Telangana State Congress Committee has severely affected the Congress despite attempts by senior party leader Digvijay Singh to rejuvenate the battlescarred party. Though Digvijay tried his best to “wake the leaders from slumber”, any Congress leader eyeing for the party presidentship still dreams of a change of leadership sooner or later. “The rot can be rectified only through change of leadership. Cosmetic changes or sermons will not help the party anymore. New blood has to be infused at all levels and the old, infirm and rejected leaders should be kept as advisers and away from decision-making since it has ruined the party in Telangana and Andhra Pradesh,” a senior Congress leader remarked. Another party leader said lobbyists and caucus still controlled the Congress and the ground reality was not being conveyed to AICC president Sonia Gandhi or vice-president Rahul Gandhi. Digvijay’s advice to party leaders to take on the ruling TRS government too is being taken with a pinch of salt. “The same leadership bent backwards to please Chief Minister K. Chandrasekhar Rao and then dumped him. Can’t say how long this animosity will last. One fine morning you may find Rao holding meetings with Sonia Gandhi,” remarked another leader. “Digvijay wants us to protest in front of turncoats that joined TRS. But he is forgetting we too have lured huge number of turncoats before elections from the TRS and other parties. YSR did it and Sonia Gandhi has done it. Can’t call a kettle black,” said the Congress leader.
