Who paid tribute to liberation of the Auschwitz camp?
The 70th anniversary of the Soviet Army troops’ liberation of the Auschwitz concentration camp will be celebrated on January 27. To honour the occasion, Reuters photographers got together to take portraits of Auschwitz survivors who are still alive today to tell the stories of their terrible ordeals and ensure that what happened during the Holocaust would never be forgotten. According to Bored Panda, the Auschwitz concentration camp, located in Nazi-occupied Poland, is estimated to have killed 1.1 million people, most of whom were Jews. Of the 200,000 inmates who were freed in 1945, about 300 are alive today.
