After the members in Lok Sabha raised the issue of the unnatural death of IAS officer D.K. Ravi in Bengaluru, Union minister for home affairs Rajnath Singh said that the Centre was ready for a CBI probe if the state government were to recommend for such an enquiry.

Mr Singh’s assurance of a CBI probe at the earliest came amidst APs raising the issue in the Lok Sabha on Thursday.

The BJP MPs from Karnataka staged a protest outside Parliament demanding a CBI probe into the “mysterious death” of the young IAS officer. They slammed the Congress government in the state over the issue.

However, resisting growing clamour for a CBI probe, Karnataka government decided to stick to its decision not to refer to the agency the case, as the issue paralysed the Assembly for the third day.

Mr Singh maintained that the state government had to first recommend, which is mandatory, for a CBI probe.

The BJP MP and Karnatka unit chief Prahlad Joshi raised the issue in Lok Sabha and said that the deceased official’s family and others in the state were not satisfied with the CID probe orde- red by the state government.

Mr Joshi alleged that the law and order situation in Karnataka was in a bad shape. He also complained about police lathicharge on the protesters in Karnataka. However, Congress members from Karnataka rejected Mr Joshi’s allegations.
