90% students pick external checkers

Parents feel they give more marks

- AMAR TEJASWI | DC HYDERABAD, MARCH 19

More and more parents are opting for Board exams for their children’s CBSE summative assessments in Class X since they think external examiners are more generous in awarding marks.

CBSE allows students the option of local evaluation in the same school or external evaluation by the Board, but schools say almost 90 per cent of students opt for the second option because they think external examiners are generous.

Students of Classes IX and X have to appear for the formative assessments (FA) and summative assessment (SA) exams as part of the continuous comprehensive evaluation (CCE).

For the year-end SA, students who wish to remain in the CBSE system for Classes XI and XII have to get their evaluation done locally at the school.

On the other hand, students who wish to migrate to other Boards after Class X can get their exam evaluation done with external examiners from the CBSE like regular Board exams.

“Most parents want their children to go for CBSE external evaluation because they think external examiners are generous with marks. But it is not true. Same school evaluation is done as per the key sent by the CBSE,” said Simi Nagi, principal, Pallavi Model School, and also a regular head of CBSE regional examiners.

Meanwhile, parents also think Board exams instill sense of fear in their children, forcing them to study better.
