SC extends relief to Teesta, spouse
The Supreme Court on Thursday extended until further orders the anticipatory bail granted to social rights activist Teesta Setalvad and her husband Javed Anand in a misappropriation case.
A Bench of Justices Dipak Misra and A.K. Goel while extending the anticipatory bail, directed the matter to be placed before the Chief Justice of India H.L. Dattu for posting the petitions before a three-judge Bench.
Justice Misra, writing the brief order, said “the question that arises for consideration by the larger bench is whether liberty on the one hand and fair and effective investigation on the other, make out a case for extending the benefit under Section 438 Cr.P.C. Ms Setalvad and her husband have been booked by the Gujarat Police on charges of cheating, breach of trust and under the IT Act, in a matter relating to the construction of “Museum of Resistance” in the Gulbarg Society in Ahmedabad which was hit by riots in 2002.
