Get ready to face the heat

From the right footwear and skirts to eyewear and suntan, get yourself ready to face the summer

- ANISHA DHIMAN

With the temperature rising by the day, it’s time to grudgingly accept the fact that the summer is upon us. Braving the heat that threatens to melt, burn and tan, it’s no surprise that fashion takes a backseat for many during this time of the year.

But coming to the rescue are stylists, who give us cool must-haves to pull off a “hot” look that won’t result in you passing out in the heat.

CUT-OUTS, MAXI AND MINI SKIRTS, LINEN SHORTS AND LOOSE PYJAMAS

There is no better time than now to grab those shorts that are buried deep in your closet. A crop-top paired with a trendy short is what stylist Tanya Gupta suggests for women and for men. Her advice is to keep it cool with linen pants and shorts and also floral printed shirts.

Hot off the runway is also the “cutout” trend for women, which is nothing but a garment where certain patches of skin are shown, be it your waist, abdomen or your back. “Apart from getting the clothes right, you also need to get the right combination of fabric and colour together,” says Tanya, adding, “Opt for fabric that is lighter, such as cottons, linen, romantic lace etc.,” she adds.

GET SOME SHADES

Cat eye, round, retro, oversized, wayfarers, aviators — sunglasses are what stylists suggest one must experiment with during this time. “You are going to be wearing them the most, so make sure you have the right one. Wayfarers look amazing on men, they can never go wrong with it as they are a classic pick. For women, I would suggest retro and vintage style glasses,” says fashion blogger Masoom Minawala.

ESPADRILLES AND GLADIATORS

Do away with your closed toe shoes and bulky shoes, for summer is the time when you also need to let your feet breathe. “Espadrilles are casual flat shoes made of canvas or cotton fabric and the sole is made of jute rope. These shoes are very comfortable for men as your feet feel airy,” says Masoom. Gladiators are also a good investment.

THE RIGHT HAT

Fedoras for men and bowler hats for women are bound to make them look stylish. “I always admire a guy who can pull of a fedora. They look amazing when paired with casual shirts and linen shorts,” says Masoom.

DEODORANT, SUNSCREEN AND WATER

Last, but not the least, stylists recommend to always carry a bottle of water, sunscreen and deodorant; because keeping yourself fresh is the first step you must take into consideration when it comes to looking and feeling good.
