ROCK THE GOOD OL’ RETRO LOOK
Bold and geometric patterns in vibrant colours can dress up your home well. And you can also use old telephones or radios as artefacts
If there is one look that always seems to hold everyone’s attention, it is the good old retro look. This summer, you can take a step back into the 50s and 60s with vibrant colours in your home. And incorporating this look is not too difficult, say interior designers in the city.
“The 60s was all about bold and geometric patterns and you can play around with the same colours in your interiors. Bright hues of blues like turquoise and shades of green or lavender or orange can be used to brighten up your home in a retro flavour. The era also had a bling element which you can add with brass tables or just brass legs for a table. Ornate handles for doors also look great,” says interior designer Monica Bhandula.
Interior designer Raajsree Ram shares a theme that you can use, “A blend of Scandinavian design with sleek furniture and clean lines is a theme that one can opt for. It was also the time when laminates were introduced, so you can have a lot of laminated furnishings in your home,” he says.
This is the time when all of your prized possessions that have stayed with your family for long, can finally come out of the trunks (you can also use the trunks). Monica gives a few examples, “Old chandeliers with a metal structure and glass lamps would look great. Old LP records or transistors can work as artefacts. Another idea would be to have an old camera placed on a tripod in one corner of your living room.”
