Gopalpuram police station to be shifted for Metro Rail

- HYDERABAD, MARCH 29

The Gopalpuram police station is being shifted to the old GHMC building at Hari Hara Kala Bhavan in Secunderabad as Hyderabad Metro Rail and the GHMC failed to construct a new building for the cops.

The Gopalpuram police station building has to be demolished to make way for the Metro Rail. A piece of land adjacent to the police station was given to construct the new building.

The issue was discussed in meetings with chief secretary Rajiv Sharma over the last three months and many deadlines set. But the new building never came up.

Officials said it was finally decided to shift the police station as Metro Rail work was getting blocked.

The Gopalpuram police station houses the law and order police and traffic police wings, and both will be shifted to the old GHMC building. Meanwhile, the police outpost built at the Secunderabad railway station has been demolished.

A senior inspector said, “We do not know the reason. The outpost was set up for the security of the passengers.”

More than 2 lakh people go to the railway station every day.

“There are lots of complaints of luggage theft, pick-pocketing and, in the night, of prostitution. Three constables and an inspector were stationed here and the outpost had CCTV cameras which used to monitor the parking area and the compound.”
