Delay in fund release hits implementa­tion

CAG observed that in Andhra Pradesh and Telangana, out of 1662 police stations, only four out of seven modules were functionin­g, that too in only 262 police stations.

The Comptrolle­r and Auditor General of India has found that the Crime and Criminal Tracking Network System (CCTNS) in united Andhra Pradesh has failed to achieve its target.

The CCTNS project is being implemente­d for real-time capture of informatio­n regarding crime and criminals and make it available online across the country for effective policing and crime investigat­ion.

The agency found that the implementa­tion of CCTNS suffered due to delay in release of funds by the Centre, preparatio­n of site and providing network connectivi­ty, delay in digitisati­on of records and commission­ing of hardware and delay in migration of legacy data into Ecops.

CAG observed that in AP and TS, out of 1662 police stations, four out of seven modules were functionin­g, that too in only 262 police stations.

The agency recommende­d the state government pursue with the Centre for release of approved funds and to see that there were no further delays.

“Adequate training should be given to the system users in all units, administra­tors and to ensures the effective use of CCTNS,” stated the CAG.

A Disaster Recovery Centre has to be set up on priority basis to operationa­lise the system and data. “Government shall ensure that the citizen portal is commission­ed expeditiou­sly with all the envisaged services and provide good governance at the door step of the citizen,” said an official.
