Writer’s name dropped from Karachi credits

- (Inset) Writer Kushal Bakshi; A still from the first look of Welcome To Karachi

Kushal Bakshi, who wrote the story of Welcome to Karachi along with its director Ashish Mohan, recently found that his name does not feature in the film’s credits. While he has already sent messages to the director and producers of the film asking about the credit, he is also considering approaching the Film Writers Association and seeking legal redress, as he has received no reply so far.

“Kushal Bakshi travelled with the crew for a long schedule in London. However, after some creative differences, for their next schedule in Indore, he was not kept in the loop. Later, he was shocked when the trailer came out and he didn’t see his name in the credits,” a source tells us. Our sources also say that Ashish Mohan had already given the credit slate to the producers. He wanted all the important contributions to be included in the credit slate, but it didn’t happen. He has been in touch with producer Vashu Bhagnani about the omission pertaining to Kushal and has been told it will be rectified. In fact, the first poster of the film had Kushal and Ashish’s names in the screenplay credit although there was no mention of the story credits.

When contacted, Kushal simply said, “I can’t talk about it right now.” Ashish Mohan, however, did tell us, “It is just a technical mistake. Even my name as a story writer was not there in the credits. It will appear in the forthcoming publicity material and will be sorted out soon.” Vashu Bhagnani was unavailable for comment.
