More cows dead, toll rises to 17

The number of cows that died of food poisoning in the Gosamraksh­ana Samiti near Kanakadurg­a temple after being fed stale semolina on Tuesday rose to 17 on Thursday. Nine cows had died on Wednesday. Veterinari­ans said that some more are still critical and under observatio­n.

Meanwhile, the trader who donated the semolina was taken into police custody and is being questioned.

Earlier in the day, some devotees and associatio­ns staged protests demanding action against the members of the Samiti’s organising committee. They demanded committee be abolished and a new one constitute­d.
