6.8 QUAKE HITS PAPUA NEW GUINEA

A 6.8-magnitude earthquake has been recorded in Papua New Guinea, but no tsunami

was expected. The US Geological Survey says the quake on Thursday was on the island of New Britain in the Pacific. The Pacific Tsunami Warning Centre said the quake posed no tsunami threat. It also said the epicentre was 43 kilometres deep. Shallower quakes typically cause more dam
