The Centre has done the right thing by mandating seven years imprisonment to those who take or give bribes ( 7-year jail term for corruption, April 30). This could be unhappy news to the corrupt. But it is good news for the public. I think the punishment should be increased by three more years so that corrupt elements will think twice before crossing the line. Muhammad Shakir Hussain Hyderabad Kudos to the Modi government for changing the law regarding corruption. I request the government to change the criminal law to provide for quick trial and stern punishment for all crimes. The amendments to the Prevention of Corruption Act are cosmetic. Corruption is endemic in India as there are loopholes in all laws. We can never get rid of corruption with mere cosmetic changes in law.
