Scarlett opens up about childhood and poverty
Avengers star Scarlett Johansson has revealed how her family relied heavily on government-backed handouts to bring “food on the table”. “My family grew up relying on public assistance to help provide meals,” the 30year-old said during an interview.
Johansson is currently campaigning with co-star Jeremy Renner to end hunger in America. Ranked as one of Hollywood’s richest actors, Johansson had a rough childhood in the low-income housing projects of Manhattan, New York. Her Danish father, a struggling architect, found it tough to pay monthly rent. “My father barely made enough to get by. We moved house every year and finally we settled in a housing development,” she added.
